Scope and Contents

Gun Week, Sidney, OH. “Whitaker Wins Prone Smallbore Championship”, The race for the Women’s championship produced a puzzler for followers of the smallbore shooting sport, when an apparent unknown, Army Capt. Margaret Murdock of Topeka, KS, took top honors. However, subsequent investigation revealed that Capt. Murdock is the former Margaret Thompson, who is not unknown in the field of rifle shooting, having been a member of the Army’s Marksmanship Training Unit at Fort Benning, GA for several years. She was married July 29 to Gilmer R. Murdock, a former Marine rifle competitor. Capt. Murdock defeated junior competitor Debbie Davis of Dallas, TX, by three X-ring shots (490 to 487) after both shooters finished with identical 6384-point totals.
