Scope and Contents
The Pan American Sports Games – Mexico City, Mexico. Scoresheets and Newspaper articles. * Saint Mary Alumnae Newsletter, “Margaret Murdock, was cited in Women Sports for her marksmanship. She bested the top male shooters in the Western Hemisphere to win the 1975 Pan Am Games’ gold medal in the three-position smallbore rifle category. By shooting 385 out of a possible 400 points, Murdock set a new world record in the standing position. Combined with 395 prone and 386 kneeling scores, Murdock’s 1166 accumulation was the winning total. The 33-year-old anesthesiology student is the first person to win this event twice, as she took the same title at the 1967 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. Murdock is the only woman to hold an ‘open’ world record in shooting.” * Mexican newspaper: El Sol de Mexico, picture of Margaret after her 3-position win, and one of her wearing her gold medal. * Winnipeg Free Press, “Magic Marg Mows Down Mark” * El Heraldo De Mexico, “She Set a World Record, equaled the Olympic Record, and Improve the Pan American Record”
