MS 054 - D.F. Barry Photograph Collection
Abstract
D.F. Barry Collection consists of photographs by David F. Barry as well as correspondence between Barry and the first curator of the Buffalo Bill Museum, Mary Jester Allen, and some advertising material. During the latter half of the 19th century Barry spent time in the Western United States photographing military men, Indians, and other inhabitants of the frontier. Included in this collection are portraits of notable historical figures such as Sitting Bull, Chief Gall, Rain-in-the-Face, Myles Keogh, Tom Custer and other members of General George Armstrong Custer’s command. Barry’s photographs provide an important visual record of the people and places that helped to shape the American West.
