Abstract

Victor Alexander (1906-1973) was a master 20th century saddle-maker who worked for the Visalia Stock Saddle Co. of San Francisco, California early in his career, then formed his own Victor Alexander Co. in the 1940s, then joined with the Bona Allen, Inc. of Buford, Georgia as saddle designer and production manager. These papers from his files document the products of numerous American saddle and leather/horse tack related companies.   Commercial catalogs and related materials form the first series, from c. 1912 to c. 1984, with many catalogs undated.   The second series is comprised of horse, western or craft related periodicals from c. 1937 to c. 1967.  The final set of materials includes manuscripts, photographs and occasional books, c. 1909 to c. 1971.  Three oversize boxes hold items from each of the series.  Victor Alexander, Jr. donated these papers in 1993.  See also MS 133 Victor Alexander Oral History Collection.
