Abstract
Gene Albert “Gabby” Barrus was born in Winterset, Iowa, in 1913.During the years of the Great Depression, Gabby moved west, eventually settling in Cody, Wyoming. He worked a variety of jobs in the Cody area including hunting guide for Max Wilde and KODI sportscaster.
Gabby became interested in photography around 1968, after working with local photographer Jack Richard. He soon created an extensive portfolio of wildlife photography, and began finding work as a freelance writer and photographer for various wildlife and hunting publications.Despite his late introduction to photography, Gabby published hundreds of photographs before his retirement in 1993.
