MS 051 - Western Scenes: Woodcuts and Engravings

Abstract Collection consists of various published images of western scenes cut out of various publications, including Picturesque and Marvels of the New World, as well as French and German language books and newspapers. The plates represent scenes from the American west and give a good indication of how the United States was pictured in the mid-nineteenth century.

Abstract This collection is the 2001 issue of Yellowstone Resources and Issues book. This book is "an annual compendium of information about Yellowstone National Park." This booklet is a great snapshot of seeing what the park was like in 2001.

Abstract This collection is a family photo album from between 1922-1925. The photographs are of a girls' trip out to Yellowstone, where they lived and worked for a summer. There are also a couple of newspaper clippings and decals from Yellowstone in the book. The photographs show what it was like to work and live in Yellowstone during the early 20th century. Some interesting pictures are of bears eating out of the dump that was there until the 1960s and pictures of old bus parts at Mammoth.

Some interesting photos in the album include Mount Rushmore in its final stages of construction, dude ranches, and Yellowstone Park. This documents what one would have seen on a cross country road trip during 1937.
