Biographical or Historical Information
Jack Rutherford (Born Rutherford Herman) (1893 – 1982),
Rutherford Herman was born April 12, 1893 in Germantown, Pennsylvania to Charles Herman Dexheimer and Margaret Rutherford Cullen. He lived with his mother and brother in New York and New Jersey before moving to California. He began his performing career with appearances in plays and dramas eventually appearing in motion pictures. He played “Buffalo Bill” Cody in the motion picture “Flaming Frontiers” in 1938. In 1945 he married Virginia Bouldin from Dallas, Texas. He continued to appear in many western themed motion pictures, while continuing stage work in a variety of productions. He also played the part of “Buffalo Bill" Cody in “Annie Get Your Gun” starring Mary Martin as a touring production from 1947-1948.
