Maj.John Foster, took honors the next day in an encounter at the Mid-Winter Int'l Rifle Championships at Norcross, GA. In GA,the Army squad and a two-man Army Reserve team hung up nine new national records in a hotly contested battle. 7 new national team records were established at the River Bend Gun Club's annual Int'l Smallbore Tournament in Marietta, GA. Topping the individual scores was Maj.Jack Foster of the USAMTU who scored 1168. Etc....The USAMTU team, consisting of Wigger and Foster, set new open and service records in the half and full courses of 1167 and 2332, respectively, on its way to winning those matches. This west Georgia Infantry post will host a four-day smallbore international rifle tournament opening today. The annual Champion of Champions event will be fired on the indoor range of the Army Marksmanship Unit and is expected to attract top service, reserve and civilian marksmen. Both individual and team championships will be offered. Entered: Lones Wigger, Lanny Bassham, Jack Writer, Margaret Murdock, Trish Foster and Marie Alkire (Murdock's sister). No mention of John Foster.

Scope and Contents "Wigger Leads AMTU To 18 Rifle Victories".... Wigger won the Grand Aggregate Championship with a 4711 total... Wigger led his army team into the championship circle in 18 of the 24 matches. The Army Reserves took the other six, shutting out the civilian teams. In the four-day meet, the large band of mixed Army, Army Reserve and civilian competitors hung up 64 national records, a record in itself.
