More than 6,000 competitors went head-to-head for national honors. Smallbore Report: U.S. Shooting Team member and Olympic medal hopeful Jean Foster tallied a 2286-90X to win the Winchester Trophy for high civilian, as well as the woman’s championship title, (pg.45 says the score was 2286-60X). Marie Thompson Alkire is the sister of Margaret Thompson Murdock. Marie, Margaret and Trish Foster sometimes shot in competitions together. The newsletter mentions their “Goddaughter” Jean Foster – had a great shooting year. It also says the Fosters went on the annual fishing trip to Canada with Mern and a family friend. Mernice was also a competition shooter (Marines).
