Biographical or Historical Information
James J. Sloan was born in 1883 in Missoula, Montana, and raised on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. During his years on the Crow Indian Reservation in southeastern Montana, he took many photos of the Crow people and buffalo near the Big Horn Mountains in Montana. He died in 1957.

Abstract
This collection contains photographs of the early Crow Fair, bison, horses, tepees, and Crow people. These photographs were taken mostly by James J. Sloan during the early 20th century. Some of the photographs have captions on the back identifying the people in the photograph.
